The Material Resources blog is no longer being updated! However, you can follow me on Twitter, drop in to my Posterous where I occasionally post things and of course check out IOM3's superb new website (which I manage) at www.iom3.org On the latter you'll find dozens of new articles every month by materials, minerals and mining professionals, as well as a host of other essential information on IOM3 services and communities, and improved features including forums and content alerts. Look forward to seeing you there!

Best wishes

London firm fined £50,000 for packaging waste transgression

'Green' London wine merchant Berkmann Wine Cellars has been fined nearly £50,000 under the Producer Responsibility Obligations for failing to recover and recycle more than 2,800 tonnes of packaging waste. The firm stumped up fines and costs to the Environment Agency for failing to register as a producer of packaging and for failing to meet its requirements to recover and recycle packaging waste from 1999 to 2005. The PRO requires firms with a turnover of more than £2m that handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging each year to contribute to UK recycling targets for packaging waste.
