MR's Man in the Pub points me to a recent post in cool design blog Inhabitat about Heineken's WOBO (world bottle). Invented way back in 1963, Alfred Heineken's idea for a glass beer bottle that could be used as a building material when empty came to him during a trip to the Caribbean where he saw beaches littered with empties. Clearly ahead of its time in both ecology and drinking stakes, it seems a shame it never took off.
